Things To Do (other than our wedding)

We know there are tons of guides for things to do in Belfast, but they nearly all have the same things. If you are staying longer, here are a few of our recommendations.

Crumlin Road Gaol

We did a tour of the Gaol on one of our early trips to Belfast and we both really enjoyed it. This was our first choice of wedding venues. The only reason we didn't go with it in the end was because we thought a hotel would be more convenient for everyone.

I don't know why this gets overlooked on so many travel guides. It is one of the best things to do in Belfast.

Nomadic

Everyone knows about the Titanic Museum, so I'm sure we don't need to tell you about that. However, if you book a ticket to the Museum, it includes entrance onto the Nomadic (Unfortunately tickets can't be bought separately). Most people end up skipping the Nomadic, but it's one of the best parts of the museum.

HMS Caroline

This is an old navy ship you can tour. We've been saying for years that we were going to do it sometime and we finally did it recently. We really enjoyed it and plan to go back soon.

This is just a 10 minute walk from the Titanic Hotel.

C.S. Lewis Square

This is right by our house 💕

It is a small square filled with statues of characters from The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe. Rocky used to get so excited when we had visitors and we would ask him if he wanted to go show them Aslan. He'd be bouncing down the road excited to get their and run up the hill to the huge Aslan statue.

The Hollow

If you do visit C.S Lewis Square, you may as well stroll 5 minutes down the road to The Dixon Playing Fields. This is where 'The Hollow' from Brown Eyed Girl is.

"Hey where did we go? Days when the rain came down in the hollow, playin' a new game"

Bullhouse East

WE GOT ENGAGED HERE!!

This is just at the edge of C.S. Lewis Square. They sell craft beers and the pizza is delicious. If you go, get hot honey on your pizza *drools*

Stormont Estate

The grounds of Stormont are our favourite place to go for a walk. There are several different trails you can take and each of them are lovely. Just a warning though, if you have dogs or kids, you may leave a bit angry that the south doesn't have facilities like they have here.

George's Market

Ok, this one is probably on all the guide books, but it's well worth a visit. Just be warned, it is only open Fri-Sunday.

W5 & The Odyssey

W5 looks like it is just aimed at kids, but we can tell you from experience that immature adults love it too.

There are plenty of other things to do in the Odyssey too. Lost City Golf has a really good theme. There is a cinema (surprisingly we haven't actually been here since before it changed hands). If there is a Giants game on during your stay, we highly recommend getting tickets. I wouldn't recommend going out or your way for the arcade and bowling, but they're a good way to kill some time too.

The Odyssey is right next to The Titanic Hotel.

Murals

So everyone knows about Belfast murals but here are some of our favourites;

Belfast Giants, Lord Street, East Belfast

The Titanic, Dee Street, East Belfast

Ballymacarett Train Crash, Dee Street, East Belfast

Ulster Freedom Corner, East Belfast

Flying High, Great Victoria Street, City

Great Victoria Forest, Downshire Place, City

The Chef, High Street, City

The Acrobat, Donegall Street, City

The Samson & Goliath Cranes

Ooops, wrong picture 😂

Obviously we can't leave out the cranes when we have birds named after them. They were the biggest cranes in the world up until recently.

You'll see them out the window during our reception anyway, but the birds' wouldn't have forgiven us if we left them out.
